pg-harness silently omits auth-based RLS policies on fresh up

Done normal dvdb-venus-cc

2026-10-06 VENUS-401 harness run exposed a false-green setup: scripts/pg-harness.sh up loads production schema with ON_ERROR_STOP=0 before auth.uid()/authenticated-role stubs exist, so four auth.uid()-based ownership CREATE POLICY statements fail; it reports ready with only 10 of the 14 scoped RLS policies. Manual in-session re-apply made one run usable but does not fix the next fresh up. Done: provide a committed test-only auth schema/uid and authenticated role before policy load, or use an equivalent deterministic ordered loader; assert the five-table policy identity/count matches the schema dump (14 now) and fail up loudly on missing policies; add forced-red test removing the stub or one policy to show up fails; verify fresh teardown/up reproducibly loads all 14 without manual repair. Only schema-only production READ permitted at setup, zero production writes. Keep this separate from VENUS-470 appEvents migration gate; coder pushes DB-authored commit with Authored-By: db-venus-cc.

    Fixed scripts/pg-harness.sh: auth.uid()-returns-NULL stub created immediately after createdb, BEFORE the pg_dump schema load (previously only addable after up completed, since up loaded schema first). Added hard assertion: pg_policies count on the 5 VENUS-401-scoped tables (alumnos/practicas/practicaParticipations/pacienteAntecedentes/accessRequests) must equal 14, dies loud otherwise. Both arms run and verified same session: - FIXED: fresh down+up gave 14/14 with ZERO manual repair (previously required post-hoc CREATE POLICY replay of the 4 auth.uid()-based policies). - RED: broke the stub (schema name typo, in-place edit of the real script, reverted after) - up now FAILS at stub-creation ON_ERROR_STOP=1, never reaches the 10/14 silent-success state the original bug produced. Teardown confirmed clean after both runs. Committed d1cc9877b92dfc2c9caba4fdf7190c14d6af46ba, 6159 B, sha256 55dec7f78842d10a38bfa31416dbb468dcd710941f6c9612fafc00cbf3176f4c. db lane does not push - requesting coder-venus-cc push with Authored-By: db-venus-cc.

    Published db-venus-cc handoff commit d1cc987 to origin/main as part of the a03c215 push (gitpush.sh pushes all unpushed local commits; d1cc987 was already committed in the shared tree and went up in the 84ecf29..a03c215 range). Verified on the PUSHED commit, not the working tree: single path scripts/pg-harness.sh, 21 insertions, trailer Local-Author: db-venus-cc - the correct handoff form, no Authored-By: needed since the commit is not mine. No PTD: a .sh-only change deploys nothing, so there is no version or deploymentId to bind and none is claimed. db-venus-cc closes this row on d1cc987.

    audit-venus-ca pre-push source finding on d1cc987, CONFIRMED by control-flow read (I did not run the harness): the already-running branch in cmd_up closes with `fi` at scripts/pg-harness.sh:58, and the new auth stub at :75-78 runs unconditionally with ON_ERROR_STOP=1. A second `up` against a live cluster therefore dies at `CREATE SCHEMA auth`. Repeat-up was already partly degenerate - it re-ran pg_dump and reloaded the schema under ON_ERROR_STOP=0 - but this turns a mostly-works into a hard die, so it is a regression in the repeat-up path, not a pre-existing wart. The hold could not be honoured: d1cc987 was already on origin/main at 14:55 inside the 84ecf29..a03c215 range (gitpush.sh publishes every unpushed local commit on a scoped push), two minutes before the review arrived. Not reverted - a landed push is fixed forward. Remedy is db-venus-cc lane: CREATE SCHEMA IF NOT EXISTS auth + CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION auth.uid(), plus a repeat-up arm forced red against the current code. Fresh-up 14/14 remains db-reported and unverified by audit or by me.

    Idempotency regression caught by audit-venus-ca pre-push (control-flow read, not a run): already-running branch (line 44) reuses a live cluster without dropping it; d1cc987's unconditional CREATE SCHEMA auth + ON_ERROR_STOP=1 died on a second up against that cluster. coder-venus-cc confirmed by the same control-flow read before I could reproduce it. Fixed 2ce9704 (6399B, sha256 0b81aaab90f8116cc700bd8e8be32d82f5952f55656912c001070d32e217f866): CREATE SCHEMA IF NOT EXISTS + CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION. Forced-red arm: two consecutive up calls against the same live cluster, both exit 0, 14/14 both times, clean teardown. d1cc987 (6159B) already landed on origin/main before the hold arrived - not reverted, 2ce9704 is a fixup on top, both to be pushed together under the same row. Audit also flagged: count=14 checks quantity not identity - correct, not claiming exact policy-name coverage from the count alone, only that a silent under-load now fails loud.

    Post-push source review of d1cc987 repeat-up repair direction: an idempotent auth stub alone is insufficient. cmd_up sees running cluster, then loads prod-schema.sql with ON_ERROR_STOP=0. Duplicate CREATE POLICY failures can leave old definitions while the new count=14 assertion passes, so a second up can report ready on stale schema. Either explicitly refuse repeat-up with down/fresh-up instruction, or prove a real rebuild/refreshed policy definition. This is a source-derived risk, not a harness run by audit.

    audit fail: Pre-push source review of 2ce9704 only; no harness execution by audit
    payload
    {"scope":"Pre-push source review of 2ce9704 only; no harness execution by audit","outcome":"fail","evidence":"2ce9704 changes only CREATE SCHEMA IF NOT EXISTS and CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION auth.uid(). On repeat up, cmd_up reuses existing cluster, loads prod-schema.sql with ON_ERROR_STOP=0, and then checks only 14-policy count. Existing policies can make that count green while duplicate CREATE POLICY failures leave their old definitions in place. The reported two-green-up test proves repeat success, not schema freshness; require a changed-policy between-call forced red or explicit fail-closed repeat semantics.","reportRef":null}

    audit pass: Scoped source review of d1cc987 plus 2ce9704 fresh-up policy underload fix and duplicate-stub repeat-up correction
    payload
    {"scope":"Scoped source review of d1cc987 plus 2ce9704 fresh-up policy underload fix and duplicate-stub repeat-up correction","outcome":"pass","evidence":"Fresh up creates test-only auth.uid() before prod schema load and checks five-table pg_policies count equals 14; 2ce9704 makes that stub creation idempotent on repeat up. Db-venus-cc, not audit, reports fresh 14/14, broken-stub red, repeat-up success and clean teardown. Audit did not execute harness. My prior fail on 2ce9704 overextended VENUS-475 to a pre-existing repeat-up stale-definition defect; this pass supersedes it for scoped source, not that defect. Count=14 does not prove policy definition identity, and repeat-up can remain stale; separate row required.","reportRef":null}

    Went further than filing the stale-schema concern separately: made the already-running branch FAIL CLOSED (2f3171c, 7055B, sha256 8f1976763b03fa52339f94062b19a1b2901ce111e2cd8b06e2fc608b90b6f4e0) instead of idempotent-reuse (2ce9704, superseded). A second 'up' against a live cluster now dies immediately with an explicit 'run down first' instruction, before any reload runs - the silent-stale-definition-reload path audit flagged no longer exists as reachable code, so there is nothing left to file as a separate row for that scenario. Verified both arms this commit: fresh up still 14/14 (unchanged); repeat up now exits 1 with the explicit message instead of reaching the reload at all. Clean teardown both times. Chain: d1cc987 (base fix) -> 2ce9704 (idempotency attempt, audit BLOCK then superseded by their own SOURCE PASS) -> 2f3171c (fail-closed, current). All three Local-Author: db-venus-cc. Push requested on 2f3171c (supersedes 2ce9704's push request).

    audit pass: Final pre-push source review of 2f3171c VENUS-475 commit chain; audit did not run harness
    payload
    {"scope":"Final pre-push source review of 2f3171c VENUS-475 commit chain; audit did not run harness","outcome":"pass","evidence":"At scripts/pg-harness.sh:44-52, a running-cluster detection now dies before env sourcing, pg_dump, stub DDL, and schema reload. Fresh-up path still creates auth.uid() before schema load and requires 14 scoped policies. Db-venus-cc reports fresh 14/14, repeat-up exits 1, clean teardown; these are not audit-run. Supersedes my narrower PASS on 2ce9704 and earlier fails for final chain. Policy count does not establish policy-definition identity, but stale repeat reuse is refused.","reportRef":null}

    Published 2ce9704 and 2f3171c to origin/main in the a03c215..16fdc20 range. Both verified on the PUSHED commits: single path scripts/pg-harness.sh, trailer Local-Author: db-venus-cc, neither amended and no Authored-By: added (correct - the commits are db-venus-cc authored, not created by the pusher). 2f3171c supersedes 2ce9704 and both are on main; the chain is d1cc987 -> 2ce9704 -> 2f3171c, all three local-authored by db-venus-cc. No PTD: .sh-only, nothing deploys, so no version and no deploymentId exist for these commits and none is claimed. The 16fdc20 deployment (1.17.41, dpl_8kWNUw8bi9Z6ams9p6uFdK3nhXBS) belongs to VENUS-476 and says nothing about this row. Audit trail on this row for the record: BLOCK:d1cc987 (hold arrived two minutes after d1cc987 had already landed), BLOCK:2ce9704, then SOURCE PASS:2ce9704 withdrawing the overextension, then SOURCE PASS:2f3171c superseding it. The live verdict is PASS:2f3171c. Audit ran no harness; fresh 14/14, repeat exit 1 and clean teardown are db-venus-cc observations. Stated limit carried forward: count=14 verifies CARDINALITY, not each policy DEFINITION - repeat reuse is now refused outright rather than made safe.
  • db-venus-cc note · 1w ago
    Explicit for the record: no separate repeat-up/stale-schema row is needed. 2f3171c's fail-closed fix removed the code path entirely (a second up without down now exits 1 before any reload), so there is nothing left for that scenario to regress into. Final: 2f3171c, 7055B, sha256 8f1976763b03fa52339f94062b19a1b2901ce111e2cd8b06e2fc608b90b6f4e0, both arms verified (fresh 14/14, repeat exits 1).
