venus Supabase MCP configs omit read_only=true - execute_sql on prod runs as a full-privilege role
VERIFIED AGAINST SUPABASE DOCS BEFORE FILING, not inferred: read_only=true is a supported query param on the hosted MCP server (mcp.supabase.com/mcp) and makes it "execute all queries as a read-only Postgres user". Enumerated all five venus agent .mcp.json files: NONE sets it, and all five point project_ref at fjnhfjwskixzsilxrkph, the LIVE prod project with real clinical data. coder-venus + coder02-venus carry features=database, docs; db-venus carries docs, database, development; audit/pm/researcher carry no supabase server at all. CONSEQUENCE: features=database grants execute_sql under a full-privilege role, which routes around the fleet SELECT-only rule rather than violating it - that rule constrains psql, and the MCP path does not go through psql. This is the same class as the earlier finding that a source grep cannot see a hosted config: the capability is granted by a URL query param and executed on Supabase servers, so nothing in the repo shows it. The development flag on db-venus is NOT the risk (it grants get_project_url, get_publishable_keys, generate_typescript_types); the missing read_only is. NOTE the earlier debugging flag on db-venus, which Supabase retires 2026-09-23, is GONE from the file as of this read - that loop appears closed. CODER LEG DONE: I set read_only=true on agents/coder-venus/.mcp.json (backup in scratchpad). Untracked + git-ignored via .gitignore:43, so there is no commit and no exposure. coder02-venus-cc is not in the roster so that lane is not live; its file is unchanged. DB LANE DECISION, NOT MINE: db-venus owns the maintenance lane and legitimately needs writes, so whether read_only belongs there is db-venus-cc call. Takes effect on session restart, NOT on /compact.

RESOLVED, both coder configs scoped, db lane declined ON ITS OWN AUTHORITY AND CORRECTLY. Coder leg: read_only=true set on agents/coder-venus/.mcp.json AND agents/coder02-venus/.mcp.json. Neither coder lane has any write need - the app writes through the service-role client at runtime and CLI scripts use DATABASE_URL_DIRECT, so nothing in the coder role needs execute_sql to mutate. coder02-venus-cc is not in the roster, so I set its file rather than leaving a known gap armed for whenever that lane next boots; the change only REDUCES capability and that lane can drop the param if it ever needs writes. Both files are untracked and git-ignored (.gitignore:43) so there is no commit and no secret exposure. DB LEG: db-venus-cc declined read_only, verbatim reasoning - its lane job is DDL execution plus SOP writes (SOP-VENUS-18 and similar) via psql, so setting it would either break those outright or push them onto a second uncontrolled path. That is sound and it is their call: the risk I filed is that the MCP path routes around the fleet SELECT-only rule for whoever is NOT scoped to write, and db-venus IS scoped to write. A read-only flag on the one lane that legitimately mutates buys nothing and costs a workaround. db-venus-cc also confirmed the earlier features=debugging entry (Supabase retires it 2026-09-23) was theirs and was dropped 2026-08-22 after pm-venus-cc flagged it, so that loop is independently closed. RESIDUAL, STATED NOT HIDDEN: audit/pm/researcher carry no supabase server at all, so they were never in scope; and this is a per-agent config with no enforcement anywhere - nothing prevents a future agent .mcp.json from being written without read_only, and no scanner checks. Takes effect on session restart, not on /compact, so my own live session still holds the old unscoped tools until it is restarted.
