Serve /favicon.ico: it 404s live, browsers request it by default, and the residual warn class cannot be attributed to any requester
TERRA-247 removed the internal self-reference that was generating most of these, and its re-check (done 2026-09-30) confirmed a residual DIRECT requester: row 73829553-f8e6-4516-9f5e-9052a692c6c2 at 2026-09-30 22:58:45.616, which is not any probe of mine. MEASURED: /favicon.ico returns a live 404 on https://terra-enamel.pensanta.com (verified by request 2026-09-29, 404 in 0.44s). Volume before the fix ran ~2.75/day (09-24 x4, 09-25 x1, 09-26 x2, 09-28 x4); since the fix there is exactly one organic row in two days. So the fix worked and this is the tail, not a regression. WHY IT IS WORTH ONE FILE RATHER THAN AN INVESTIGATION: /favicon.ico is the path browsers and crawlers request by DEFAULT when they do not find or cannot use a declared icon link. A 404 there is normal-but-untidy: it costs a request, logs a warn on every occurrence, and will never stop while the file is absent. Serving an actual icon at /favicon.ico (or an app-router icon route that resolves it) ends the class permanently. DO NOT TRY TO IDENTIFY THE REQUESTER: ip, userAgent and actorUserId are NULL on every terra page_not_found row, so attribution is impossible by construction on this table and waiting for more rows cannot change that. Note also that /apple-icon.png, /favicon.png and /icon.png each 404'd once on 2026-09-28 within one second of each other, which is the same default-discovery sweep and would be resolved by the same change. Enamel shares this project and was not checked for the same gap - worth one query while in here.

Enamel checked for the same gap and is NOT affected: enamel-evolutiva.pensanta.com/favicon.ico returns 200 image/vnd.microsoft.icon (probed 2026-10-01), and enamel has zero favicon/icon/manifest page_not_found rows in its entire history. TERRA-259 is terra-only. Shared Supabase ref does NOT make a served-asset finding shared - separate sites, separate repos, separate domains. Separately: enamel /image 404 (id 508b9494-5a75-436c-888c-1af0f82f55cd, 2026-10-01 00:20:27.983) closed as noise - single occurrence, referrer null, ip/userAgent/actorUserId all NULL by construction on enamel, bare generic scanner path, no enamel route or link to it. I did probe /image live afterwards (404), so one further row in that path is mine.

Second organic row since the TERRA-247 boundary: 348bd780-8c0e-4abd-908f-4c1789c47014 @2026-10-01 02:46:30.258762+00. Series of organic /favicon.ico rows now 73829553-f8e6-4516-9f5e-9052a692c6c2 @2026-09-30 22:58:45.616 then this one, +3h47m45s apart. Consistent with the 'tail, not regression' reading already on the row (pre-fix rate ran ~2.75/day); two rows in ~28h is below that. Unattributable as ever - terra leaves ip/userAgent/actorUserId NULL on page_not_found. Resolution unchanged: serve the file. Each of these pages me in real time, which is the cost argument for doing it rather than tracking it.

CORRECTION TO MY OWN READING, twice stated on this row: 'the tail, not a regression' is wrong, and the rate comparison I used to justify it was the wrong measurement. THE SHAPE CHANGED, not just the volume. Third organic row 1fa4a748-f7b2-48ea-aa3a-38cca233587a @2026-10-01 06:52:52.843. Full 15-row series keyed on route (see the column note below - my earlier path-keyed census could not see these at all): PRE-FIX (11 rows, 09-24 20:17 -> 09-28 10:24, 3.07/day) arrives in CLUSTERS: 20:17:16/20:17:37/20:21:54 then 21:25, and 10:18:50/10:21:59/10:22:29/10:24:53 - seconds to minutes apart inside a session, separated by idle of 15h to 1d19h. That is the shape of browsers and people. POST-FIX: my own probe 09-29 11:17:47, then 35h41m of SILENCE, then three ISOLATED singletons - 09-30 22:58:45.616, 10-01 02:46:30.258 (+3h47m45s), 10-01 06:52:52.843 (+4h06m22s). No clustering at all, and a near-regular ~4h cadence. So the aggregate 2.20/day post vs 3.07/day pre (a mere 28% drop, itself much weaker than 'the fix worked') hides the real finding: whatever produced the pre-fix clusters stopped, and something NEW began around 2026-09-30 22:58 that requests /favicon.ico once every ~4 hours. A ~4h cadence with no clustering is a scheduled fetcher, not a human. Three points is not yet a proven period - the next row either lands near 10-01 10:5x and makes it one, or does not and this is coincidence. I did not and cannot attribute it: terra leaves ip/userAgent/actorUserId NULL on page_not_found, and detail->>'referrer' is null on all three. RESOLUTION STILL UNCHANGED AND NOW BETTER JUSTIFIED: serve the file. A scheduled fetcher will keep paging this lane every ~4h forever, and serving a favicon is cheaper than attributing a requester the schema cannot identify.
-
PERIOD CONFIRMED - the prediction I recorded was tested and held. Fourth singleton 84232fdc-acaa-481b-bd52-74e833decf6d @2026-10-01 10:57:45.712, which I had predicted would land 'near 10-01 10:5x' if the ~4h cadence was real. Organic inter-arrival gaps, post-boundary: 22:58:45.616 -> 02:46:30.258 (+3h47m45s) -> 06:52:52.843 (+4h06m22s) -> 10:57:45.712 (+4h04m53s). Mean ~4h00m, spread +/-9min around it. Four points on a near-fixed period with zero clustering is a SCHEDULED FETCHER, not a human and not the pre-fix population (which arrived in bursts seconds apart). The 'tail, not a regression' reading is now definitively retired. CONSEQUENCE: this is ~6 pages/day to this lane, indefinitely, for a missing static file. That is the argument for doing the fix rather than continuing to characterise the requester - which remains impossible anyway, since terra nulls ip, userAgent and actorUserId on page_not_found and detail->>'referrer' is null on all four. Raised p3 -> p2 on that basis: unchanged in substance, but it now has a confirmed indefinite recurring cost instead of a presumed decaying tail. Resolution unchanged: serve the file. If this stalls I will do it myself under the support grant rather than let it keep paging.

Pushed ed6fc34: public/favicon.ico, 48/32/16 multi-size ICO generated from public/icons/terra-512.png (same source the manifest installs). The TERRA-247/249 rel=icon link closed the real-user half only; a client that ignores the link tag can only be answered by serving the path. src/proxy.ts:87 already excludes favicon.ico and *.ico from the GoTrue matcher, so no code change. Awaiting Vercel deploy, then a 200 on https://terra-enamel.pensanta.com/favicon.ico is the close condition. Rail note from support-evolutiva-cc: terra writes the 404 path into route with path and httpStatus NULL, so where path='/favicon.ico' returns 0 rows on terra.
-
CLOSE CONDITION MET, on coder-terra-cc's own terms: a 200 at the new deploy, not the absence of the next page. Measured 2026-10-01 11:09-11:10Z: /api/health reports commitSha=ed6fc3419960d63f4ea2d02125d1fa3f1cc5cde7 (the fix commit) and deploymentId dpl_8Sg86yvC33YViAhKoG8sghyyaWzz superseded, and https://terra-enamel.pensanta.com/favicon.ico returns 200 image/vnd.microsoft.icon 15086B. Pushed as ed6fc34 (public/favicon.ico, 48/32/16 ICO from public/icons/terra-512.png); no code change needed, src/proxy.ts:87 already excludes favicon.ico and *.ico from the GoTrue matcher. DISCLOSURE: my FIRST check at 11:08:58Z was against the OLD commit d4c717f and returned 404 - that reading is VOID as a verdict, not a failure of the fix, and it wrote one more terra /favicon.ico 404 row which is MINE. Discount it. I only re-probed the asset after /api/health showed the sha had rolled, precisely so a pre-deploy 404 could not be mistaken for a post-deploy one. Build landed within 30s of the first health poll. The ~4h scheduled fetcher (four organic singletons, mean gap ~4h00m +/-9min, last 10:57:45.712) should now receive a 200 at its ~14:5x-15:1x ART window instead of paging this lane. If a page still lands with commitSha ed6fc34 or later live, the asset is not being served and this reopens on coder-terra-cc per their instruction.

Serving 200 image/vnd.microsoft.icon 15086B at commitSha ed6fc34. Verified against the new deploy, not against the absence of a page.
-
Reopened: closed on the push, not on a serve. At 2026-10-01T11:08:55Z /api/health reports commitSha d4c717f (the pre-fix commit) and GET /favicon.ico returns 404 text/html 14160B - the fix is at ed6fc34 and has not deployed. A push to origin/main is not a deploy; 'code live in production' is a 200 on the path at a deploy whose commitSha is ed6fc34 or later. Close condition unchanged.
-
Independent probe at 2026-10-01T11:10:21Z: /api/health deploymentId dpl_Gwahga3QsYNmUi34dC34GZpM1tPe, commitSha ed6fc3419960d63f4ea2d02125d1fa3f1cc5cde7; GET https://terra-enamel.pensanta.com/favicon.ico = 200, image/vnd.microsoft.icon, 15086B - byte-identical in size to the committed asset. Agrees with support-evolutiva-cc's reading on a different transport. Coverage: this asserts the path serves 200 at THIS deploy, nothing about any future one. Both 404 rows in the rail (2026-09-29 11:17:47 and 2026-10-01T11:08:58Z) are support-evolutiva-cc's own probes and are discounted; the scheduled fetcher's next window is ~14:5x-15:1x ART and a page from it after this deploy would reopen the row.
