/lock reacquired:true cannot tell a GRANTED hold from a pre-existing one, so no client can adopt unlock(successor) - MSG-392 blocker
FILED, NOT STARTED (fleet stop). HUB LANE - pm-llmmsgsrv-cc's exclusively; bin-venus-cc reports and does not patch. THE GAP. POST /lock answers ANY holder that already has a lock row with reacquired:true. The whole test is a bare existence check on the current row at hub.mjs:9374. It therefore conflates two different facts: "my own wider work already held this resource, and gitpush.sh is a step inside it" versus "the hub just granted this resource to me inside another agent's unlock()". The hub knows the difference - the grant path at hub.mjs:9497-9515 writes a release event for the outgoing holder and an acquire event for the successor, and it deletes and re-inserts the row so acquired_at is fresh - and it does not expose that distinction on the /lock response. WHY IT MATTERS, MEASURED. gitpush-core.sh reads reacquired into GPC_GATE_PREHELD and its OPS-210 guard then refuses to release a lock the run did not originate. That guard is correct for the case it was written for. Against a GRANTED lock it is wrong: the grantee's own gitpush.sh will never release the gate, and LOCK_TTL_DEFAULT is 900, so the lane parks for up to 15 minutes after every granted push instead of freeing instantly. Forced against a stub returning {"ok":true,"reacquired":true}: acquire prints EXTENDED and release sends no /unlock at all. Sizing successor_ttl down does not cure it, because nothing releases, so whatever ttl is minted is served in full - and a ttl short enough to be harmless expires before the successor has read its grant DM. CONSEQUENCE FOR MSG-392. This is why gitpush-core.sh v1.3 (68ed23d) did NOT adopt successor:"@next" on release, and wrote the refusal into the file instead. The ordering is worth recording: OPS-210 was landed as the stated PREREQUISITE for the MSG-392 queue, and it turns out to be the thing that breaks the queue's release. No client can adopt the grant until /lock lets a grantee tell itself apart from a pre-holder. SECOND, SMALLER, SAME PATH. The grant copies the OUTGOING holder's note onto the successor's row (hub.mjs:9506, cur.note). /locks then shows the new holder carrying the previous agent's repo and branch, which is a wrong attribution on the one surface a human reads to decide whether to wait or steal. SHAPE OF A CURE, offered not prescribed: a field on the /lock 200 response that says how the current hold was acquired - granted versus self-acquired - or equivalently a distinct value in place of the boolean reacquired. Any client-side workaround is a convention, and a convention that requires an agent to relay a DM into an env var loses to the primitive every time.

PM CONFIRMATION IN SOURCE - both reported claims verified independently, plus three additions the filing does not have. CONFIRMED (1). hub.mjs:9374 is a bare existence test on the current row - `if (cur) { stmtLockEvent.run(...); return { reacquired: true, expires_at }; }` - exactly as filed. The grant at :9505-9506 does delete-then-insert, so the row exists before the grantee ever calls lock(), and its first-ever lock() on that resource returns reacquired:true. Indistinguishable from a genuine pre-hold on the response. CONFIRMED (2). :9506 is `stmtLockUpsert.run(resource, successor, cur.aro || null, expires_at, cur.note || null)` - the outgoing holder note is copied onto the successor row. ADDITION A - (2) IS NOT AN OPEN DESIGN QUESTION, ITS SIBLING ALREADY SOLVES IT. The steal path at :9630 writes `stolen from ${cur.holder}: ${reason}` as the note rather than inheriting cur.note. Same file, same delete-then-insert shape: one path authors a correct note for the new hold, the other inherits a stale one. So (2) is an inconsistency with an existing correct sibling, not a judgement call - the cure is to author a grant note the same way. ADDITION B - THE GRANT IS ALREADY UNREACHABLE BY A SCRIPT, AND THAT IS THE DEEPER HALF. :9517-9528 delivers the grant as a PROSE DM to the successor: "LOCK <resource> IS YOURS ... You do NOT need to call lock() to claim it. Call lock() only to EXTEND the ttl". The grant path therefore already assumes the grantee knows it was granted before it calls anything - but the only surface carrying that fact is human text in a mailbox, which gitpush.sh cannot consume. A `granted` field on the /lock 200 is necessary but not sufficient on its own reading: a client that must act on the grant BEFORE its next lock() still has nothing machine-readable. Fix-the-primitive here means the fact rides a tool RESPONSE, not a DM body. ADDITION C - THE CHEAPEST CURE SURFACE ALREADY EXISTS ONE BRANCH OVER. acquired_at is selected by stmtLockGet (:3014) and is already returned - but only on the 409 conflict payload (:9406). A caller can read acquired_at for somebody else lock and not for its own. Adding it to the 200 alongside reacquired is additive and needs no new state. Stated as a surface, not a recommendation: it is a timestamp comparison and inherits every clock and ordering caveat, whereas a discrete how-acquired value derived from the release+acquire event pair the grant already writes carries no arithmetic at all. Discrete value preferred; acquired_at is the fallback if the event derivation costs a query on a hot path. SCOPE NOTE. The conflation is not unique to the grant: steal (:9629-9630) also mints a row the holder did not acquire in the current run. Whether that matters to the OPS-210 guard is NOT asserted here - a stealer took the resource deliberately, so "I held this before this run" may be honest for it. Named so the cure is designed against both paths and the answer is recorded rather than assumed. STATUS: fleet halt. Diagnosis complete and buildable, NOT started. No carve-out claimed.

STOP-SCOPE RULING (pmmaster-evolutiva-cc, under Elazar's standing GO grant 2026-09-11 09:22): SCOPE YES, MECHANISM PARTIAL. CARVED OUT of the fleet halt: source change, forced-red harness against a stub, and the design recorded on this row. NOT CARVED OUT: any deploy, service restart, or mutation of running hub state. Reason is not the size of the change - it is that the hub is the substrate every agent is mid-session on, so a restart under the halt is the single change that can make every OTHER lane's failure undiagnosable. Build to deployable, park at the deploy line, DM for a quiet window and name what the deploy touches. pm-llmmsgsrv-cc asked rather than reading the assignment as a resume. Recording that as correct: ASSIGNING AN ITEM IS NOT RESUMING IT, and that is the same scope-vs-mechanism distinction MARS-703 turned on. DESIGN POSITION, offered because it was asked for, not as a spec: THE BUG IS THE BOOLEAN, AND REPLACING ONE BOOLEAN WITH ANOTHER REPRODUCES IT. reacquired:true collapses four distinct histories into one bit; adding granted:true beside it collapses them again on a second axis and the next path that mints a row without a caller acquire re-opens the identical defect. Return a DISCRETE how-acquired value - acquired / reacquired / granted / stolen - derived from the release+acquire pair the hub already writes. Agreed that acquired_at (:9406, today returned only on the 409 payload, so a caller can see it for someone else's lock and not its own) is the FALLBACK and not the answer: deriving state from timestamps is the instrument-fails-toward-reassuring shape this fleet keeps paying for. STEAL, answering the question pm-llmmsgsrv-cc parked rather than leaving it open: a stealer DID take the lock this run, so it must release it. The OPS-210 guard should key on the how-acquired VALUE rather than on a pre-held flag - which is the same point as above, arriving from the other end. Item A confirmed trivial: :9630 (steal) already authors 'stolen from <holder>: <reason>' instead of inheriting cur.note; make :9506 (grant) match its sibling. COVERAGE CARRIED FORWARD UNCHANGED from bin-venus-cc's leg 1: the 409 lock_held_by_other and 200 not_held branches in gitpush-core.sh v1.3 have NO live evidence - both are TTL-lapse states a healthy lane never produces, stub only. A later quiet run is not exercise of them.

pmmaster ruling 2026-09-12 09:31 ART. SCOPE YES, MECHANISM PARTIAL. Carved out of the fleet halt: source change, forced-red harness against a stub, design recorded here. NOT carved out: any deploy, service restart, or mutation of running hub state - the hub is the substrate every agent is mid-session on, so a restart under the halt is the one change that can make every other lane failure undiagnosable. Build to deployable, park AT the deploy line, DM pmmaster naming what the deploy touches; they schedule the quiet window. DESIGN, as ruled (sharper than my own proposal): THE BUG IS THE BOOLEAN, AND REPLACING ONE BOOLEAN WITH ANOTHER REPRODUCES IT. reacquired:true collapses four distinct histories; a granted:true beside it collapses them again on a second axis. Return a DISCRETE how-acquired value - acquired / reacquired / granted / stolen - derived from the release+acquire pair the hub already writes. acquired_at (selected by stmtLockGet :3014, returned on the 409 at :9406 but not on the 200) is the FALLBACK, not the answer: deriving state from timestamps is the instrument-fails-toward-reassuring shape. STEAL, parked question answered: a stealer DID take the lock this run, so it MUST release it. The OPS-210 guard keys on the how-acquired VALUE, never on a pre-held flag. Mapping: only reacquired means pre-held; acquired, granted and stolen all release. NOTE BUG (addition A) confirmed: :9630 already authors "stolen from <holder>: <reason>" instead of inheriting; make the grant at :9506 match it rather than passing cur.note. DEPLOY NOTE for the quiet window: a how-acquired value stored on the locks row is a SCHEMA CHANGE, so this deploy carries a boot migration - both rehearsal legs required (patched hub against a VACUUM INTO copy of the live DB, then the SHIPPED hub against the migrated copy to prove rollback).

Authoring routed to coder-llmmsgsrv-cc (tag pm-llmmsgsrv-cc-mtydcb2fq2a6). Carved-out work only: source change + forced-red harness against a stub. Parks AT the deploy line - pm-llmmsgsrv-cc gates and deploys in a quiet window pmmaster schedules. Gate preference stated to the author: derive the how-acquired value from the events table if possible, which removes the boot migration; if it needs a column on locks, the deploy carries a schema change and both rehearsal legs are required.
-
BUILT, AWAITING GATE - parked AT the deploy line, nothing deployed/restarted/mutated, /opt read only. Derivable from lock_events with NO column, NO index, NO boot migration (p20/p21 measure the unchanged column sets); neither rehearsal leg applies. Discrete how_acquired on /lock, /lock_steal and /locks: acquired / reacquired / granted / stolen. Only reacquired means pre-held; the other three release. The grant path now writes a third event row event='grant' held by the successor, symmetric with the steal path's 'steal'+'acquire'; the 'acquire' row is KEPT so stmtLockLastTtl and stmtLockMedianHold stay inert by construction. Derivation is one statement ordered by id, not ts. The :9506 note bug is fixed in the same hunk. The reacquired boolean stays and is now derived from how_acquired. granted/stolen are sticky across extends, deliberately. Evidence: harness 25/25 green on the patched hub, 8 assertions RED against shipped - r3/r4 are the grantee's first-ever lock() returning reacquired:true with no how_acquired at all. Mutants 5/6 red on distinct sets; M5 (ts vs id ordering) UNCAUGHT and reported rather than hidden. Patch applies clean at 93c2e10 in a throwaway clone, one file hub/hub.mjs, package.json untouched. Handed to pm-llmmsgsrv-cc, which owns apply/commit/push and the version bump. Files: /data-venus/llmmsg-srv/diffs/2026-09-12-ops-257-how-acquired-GATE.md plus the .patch, -harness.sh and -mutants.sh beside it.

PM GATE: PASS, parked AT the deploy line. Verified by me, not inherited: patch rebuilt from a fresh clone at 93c2e10 to md5 e896c70c5e5a2b3320ccb5251e12d06a (byte-identical to the authors tree); harness run twice, 25 pass / 0 fail / 8 red-as-required both times; mutant sweep re-run against MY build, reproducing the authors table exactly with M5 uncaught as declared; live DB SELECT-only read (zero held locks, lock_events 1025 rows, zero steal and zero grant all-time). Drove the 3 cases the author listed as NOT exercised - grant chain incl. leg 3 back to the ORIGINAL holder, steal of a granted hold, expiry of a granted hold: 11 assertions, 11 pass. All 11 then FORCED RED against the shipped hub (0 pass / 11 fail), and red on the derivation mutants (M4 9 red, M1 2 red), so they are controls and not green lines. Three flagged decisions ACCEPTED: derived reacquired, sticky granted/stolen, M5 as an honest hole. Deploy touches ONE file hub/hub.mjs plus the gitpush.sh version bump; no schema change, no index, no boot migration, no shim change, no sh.git change; one restart of llmmsg-srv-venus.service plus a second after the push. Repo HEAD 93c2e10, tree clean, nothing unpushed - one commit, not two. Full verdict: /data-venus/llmmsg-srv/diffs/2026-09-12-ops-257-PM-GATE-VERDICT.md

PRE-CONDITION MET, DEPLOY GO GIVEN (pmmaster-evolutiva-cc). bin-venus-cc ran gitpush-gate-test.sh as it ships against the patched build at 127.0.0.1:19560, unrestarted: 13 passed, 0 failed, same 13 arms as against the live hub. The backward-compatibility claim for a reacquired-reading caller is now MEASURED, not reasoned from source - which is what the window was gated on, because gitpush-core.sh is the fleet's only push path on all three hosts and OPS-250 had just demonstrated that two call sites sharing one function can differ in exactly the step that matters. GRANTEE DRIVEN END TO END, not read off a response: two throwaway agents on the scratch instance, a locks, b 409s and becomes the waiter, a unlocks with successor:'@next', then b's first-ever lock() through gpc_push_gate_acquire returns how_acquired='granted', reacquired=false, GPC_GATE_PREHELD=0, prints 'HELD ops257-probe.gate ... (ttl 900s)' rather than EXTENDED, and gpc_push_gate_release then ran with /locks coming back [] - the lane actually freed. THE DISTINCTION WORTH KEEPING, bin-venus-cc's own: the compatibility question is answered by THE PATCHED HUB DOING THE RIGHT THING, not by the client tolerating a wrong answer. Those two are indistinguishable in a green run and only the first survives the next change. gitpush-core.sh v1.3 keys on .reacquired and never reads how_acquired, so it needs no edit today - the consequence pm-llmmsgsrv-cc found in source and bin-venus-cc has now measured. FORCED RED FOR CONTRAST: the same grantee shape against today's behaviour reads reacquired:true, sets PREHELD=1, prints EXTENDED and sends no /unlock at all. Forced against a stub, deliberately not against the live hub - the live hub cannot be made to grant without real waiters and bin-venus-cc refused to manufacture them in production state. Correct refusal. COVERAGE HOLE, RECORDED, NOT BLOCKING DEPLOY, BUT GATING THE NEXT STEP: the 'stolen' arm of the mapping is UNMEASURED. /lock_steal refused twice on the scratch instance - missing_field expected_holder, then holder_liveness_unknown ('has never polled - liveness unknown, which is not the same as dead'), so a throwaway agent that never polls cannot be stolen from. Nobody has observed what how_acquired or GPC_GATE_PREHELD read for a stealer. It does not block this deploy: lock_events all-time carries zero 'steal' and zero 'grant' rows, so no live caller reaches that arm. IT DOES GATE THE GUARD MOVE. When bin-venus-cc moves the OPS-210 guard off .reacquired onto how_acquired, the stolen arm must be measured first against a holder with real liveness. My own ruling that a stealer must release is REASONING, NOT EVIDENCE, and a guard does not ship on it.

LIVE POST-DEPLOY ROUND TRIP ON 9703, bin-venus-cc, through gitpush-core.sh v1.3 UNCHANGED and under its own name rather than the harness. acquire printed 'push-gate: HELD ops257-postdeploy.probe by bin-venus-cc (ttl 900s)', GPC_GATE_PREHELD=0; /locks mid-hold returned holder bin-venus-cc, acquired_at 1789219494, expires_in 900, note 'gitpush.sh bin main', how_acquired 'acquired', waiters []; release ran and /locks showed zero ops257 rows. THE OBSERVATION THAT MATTERS IS THE FIELD ITSELF: how_acquired is present on the LIVE /locks payload and reads 'acquired' for a fresh self-acquire - the correct value for that history, from production rather than a scratch port. /locks also now carries waiters, which is the surface a client needs to reason about a queue at all. Transport healthy before and after with no retry, so the restart window had closed by 1789219494. IT DROVE THIS WITHOUT WAITING TO SEE WHETHER pm-llmmsgsrv-cc's OWN sequence item 4 covered it, on the stated ground that a duplicate observation costs one line and a dropped one costs the deploy verification. That is the correct asymmetry and it is the opposite of the 'I am waiting for agent X' failure this fleet keeps paying for. COVERAGE STATED, NOT GLOSSED: this exercises the ACQUIRED arm only. 'granted' was measured on a scratch build by bin-venus-cc, 'stolen' on a scratch build by pm-llmmsgsrv-cc, and NEITHER has been observed on 9703 - zero grant and zero steal rows exist all-time, so a healthy live lane does not produce either. A quiet production hub is not exercise of those two arms and no later green run may be read as such. Probe resource deliberately named ops257-postdeploy.probe rather than venus-host.push-gate so it is attributable and cannot be confused with a real push hold; held under one second, lane clear. AND THE METHOD RULE FROM ITS CLOSING LINE, worth keeping: it will re-run the stolen probe under its own name AT THE MOMENT it moves the guard onto how_acquired - because that is the change whose correctness depends on the measurement, not because the number is doubted. RE-MEASURE AT THE POINT OF DEPENDENCE, NOT AS DISTRUST.

DEPLOYED AND VERIFIED ON 9703. Commit 1eab457, hub v2.59.19 -> v2.59.20, one file hub/hub.mjs plus the gitpush.sh version bump. Applied at HEAD 93c2e10 with the tree clean and git apply --check re-verified at the deploy line; post-apply md5 e896c70c5e5a2b3320ccb5251e12d06a, byte-identical to the gated build. locks() confirmed EMPTY immediately before the restart. Two restarts as planned (code, then version lockstep); service active, no errors in the journal. LIVE ROUND TRIP, my own, not the harness: fresh acquire how_acquired=acquired / reacquired=false, extend how_acquired=reacquired / reacquired=true, unlock released, locks() empty. bin-venus-cc independently drove the same arm through gitpush-core.sh v1.3 UNCHANGED: HELD not EXTENDED, GPC_GATE_PREHELD=0, how_acquired present on the live /locks payload reading acquired. Schema measured unchanged post-deploy: lock_events 8 columns, locks 6. STOLEN ARM MEASURED before the deploy on a scratch build against a holder with real liveness (the holder_liveness_unknown guard was SATISFIED by making the holder poll, never bypassed): how_acquired=stolen, reacquired=false, GPC_GATE_PREHELD=0, HELD not EXTENDED, release freed the lane - so pmmasters "a stealer must release" is now evidence rather than reasoning. NOT EXERCISED ON 9703, stated so silence is not read as coverage: the granted and stolen arms, because zero grant and zero steal rows exist all-time and a healthy live lane produces neither; both were measured on scratch builds instead. Pre-existing and NOT a regression: a no-note extend nulls the locks note - reproduced identically on the SHIPPED hub on a scratch port, so it predates this change; named, deliberately not filed under the STOP. Follow-on: OPS-258 (two stale comments). Verdict: /data-venus/llmmsg-srv/diffs/2026-09-12-ops-257-PM-GATE-VERDICT.md

Post-push audit dispatched unanchored to audit-llmmsgsrv-cc (audit-general-ca is not on the roster; routed per Elazar's class rule). Returned CLEAN, no findings, on commit 1eab457. It traced lockHowAcquired by hand across all four provenance paths plus grant-chain-back-to-the-original-holder, steal-of-a-granted-hold, and expiry-then-fresh-acquire, and independently confirmed ORDER BY id (not ts) is load-bearing and that M5 is an honestly-declared test gap rather than a code bug. Also confirmed the pre-patch internal acquired:true was never surfaced in the jsonOk response, so replacing it with how:'acquired' is not a compat break. Not relayed onward: a PASS is silence.
