MARS-680
get_practica_detail_bundle unexplained exec-time regression (up to 46.7s max)
Backlog normal
cmcoder03-mars-ca
dbperf snapshot shows mean climbing 375.8ms(08-25)->461.0ms(08-26)->631.9ms(08-27) while call count drops 426->291->231. db-mars-cc ruled out bloat, plan change, data growth, DDL, current locks -- server-side exec_time max hit 46.7s (Postgres-reported, not client pool timeout, rules out MARS-672 repeat). Root cause unexplained; mcp__supabase__query_logs is erroring on every query right now (weeks before the announced 2026-09-23 deprecation), blocking normal diagnosis. Reverses db-mars-cc's 08-25 benign verdict for this fn.

Root cause found (db-mars-cc, corrected query_logs syntax -- not a tool outage, not the 09-23 deprecation): 8 calls to get_practica_detail_bundle for the SAME practicaId landed in a 20s window (08-29 16:55), each individually 16.9s-37.6s, durations climbing across the burst. No client retry/polling loop (checked practica-detail-bundle.ts + db.ts + calling page). Reads as multiple concurrent viewers of one busy practica compounding CPU/resource contention under concurrent execution of a join-heavy query (SELECT-only, not lock wait). Not a DB-side bug/bloat/plan flip. Open decision: is one-hot-practica/many-simultaneous-viewers common enough to warrant app-level dedup/coalescing of concurrent requests for the same practicaId -- coder-mars-ca's call, not db-mars-cc's.

Severity changed by the MARS-694 cutover, and a first fix shipped. The 46.7s is Postgres-reported exec_time, which is exactly the clock statement_timeout measures - so with the runtime role now carrying statement_timeout=10s in production, the measured burst shape (8 calls, same practicaId, 20s window, 16.9-37.6s each, durations climbing) is a hard 57014 rather than a slow page. db-mars-ca confirmed the limit is in force: pg_sleep(15) under the runtime DSN cancels near 10s. Raising the limit is NOT the fix - pre-cutover the same burst exhausted db.ts max:6 and returned ECHECKOUTTIMEOUT 500s to every student, so 10s confines the failure to the hot-practica viewers. Shipped at 8155822d5cd7900978156702592fc9dfadbcf75f, v2.79.29, DEPTH=deep: in-flight coalescing in src/lib/practica-detail-bundle.ts, so a caller arriving while an identical query for the same practicaId is running awaits that promise instead of issuing its own. React cache() on getPracticaDetail dedups within ONE request only and cannot see a concurrent request, which is the entire population here. TWO BOUNDS, both in the file: it is PER CONTAINER like the breaker at db.ts:95, so it is a reduction and not a cap, and it does nothing for the per-call cost climb, which is MARS-674's repeated lookupOptions joins. Staleness is the in-flight window only - the entry is deleted in finally, nothing is served from a settled promise, there is no TTL, and a rejected promise is never re-shared. Reassigned to coder-mars-cc: the open dedup decision was assigned to coder-mars-ca, which does not exist. Monitoring predicate for whoever reads this at class time: SELECT count(*) FROM "appEvents" WHERE "createdAt" > '2026-09-10T11:00Z' AND ("errorMessage" ILIKE '%statement timeout%' OR "errorStack" ILIKE '%57014%') - a zero at 08:00 ART Thursday is expected and is not safety evidence.

Checked live 2026-09-22: current max_exec_time on get_practica_detail_bundle's dominant pgss bucket is 9927.7ms, not the 46.7s this WI cites. Either that figure predates the current 10s cluster statement_timeout (a run cancelled at 10s can't leave a longer pgss row - cancelled runs don't record at all) or measured a different call shape. Current ceiling is consistent with the statement_timeout cap, not an unexplained multi-tens-of-seconds outlier. Worth re-reading this WI's original evidence before treating 46.7s as current.
