UPDATE OF keys on the statement SET list, not final NEW: every final-row-invariant trigger in the fleet using it is blind to a neighbouring trigger's rewrite

Three independent findings in one night, by two audit seats in two projects: audit-general-ca on ENAMEL-81's admin-minimum guard, audit-terra-ca on terra_241 and again on terra_279 (committed 7de15c0). Mechanism, per PG17 CREATE TRIGGER docs: a trigger's UPDATE OF <cols> clause is evaluated against the statement's SET list, NOT against final NEW. So a neighbouring BEFORE UPDATE trigger that rewrites NEW.<watched col> during an UPDATE of an unrelated column never fires the guard. Any trigger protecting a FINAL-ROW invariant (eligibility, role matrix, last-admin minimum, archive attribution) is therefore structurally blind in exactly the case a second trigger is present - and these tables all carry several. Correct shape: an all-column unconditional AFTER UPDATE guard comparing OLD/NEW for actual watched-value changes, preserving the historical-delete and no-op exemptions, with the BEFORE INSERT fast path retained; plus a forced-red arm where a neighbouring trigger does the rewrite. SCOPE: (1) census every repo's migrations and live catalog for triggers using UPDATE OF - mars, venus, pluto, terra, enamel; (2) classify each as final-row-invariant (must change) or write-shaping (may keep); (3) propose the commons rule so the next author does not re-derive it. Not a request to rewrite all of them in one push - the census and the classification are the deliverable.

CENSUS (2026-10-06). Instruments: (a) Mars LIVE catalog - pg_trigger.tgattr non-empty, cross-joined to every other BEFORE row trigger on the table whose prosrc assigns NEW.<watched col> (:= / INTO NEW.); positive control fired (detects isActive/updatedAt writers). (b) the other 4 repos: migration-file parse, last-definition-wins, DROP honoured, revert/draft/dryrun/pending/discarded/evidence excluded; assignment matched as := or statement-start =. Positive control: including drafts it flags terra_240 requireTerraMembership vs terra_238 disputeGuard (sets deletedAt) - the known sighting. NOT covered: live catalogs of pluto/terra/venus/enamel (host/creds - their db lanes); Mars repo parse undercounts live (11 vs 14) so repo counts are a floor; pluto has 2 trigger fns whose body the parser did not find; dynamic SQL / jsonb_populate_record rewrites not detected. RESULT: 51 UPDATE OF triggers in force (Mars 14 live, pluto 5, terra 11, venus 10, enamel 11). EXPOSED TODAY (a neighbour BEFORE trigger rewrites a watched col): 0 applied; 1 in drafts (terra_240, = the terra sighting). So the class is LATENT, not live: every final-row guard below goes blind the day a rewriter is added, and nothing would notice. CLASSIFICATION. Final-row/cross-row invariant (MUST change): 41. mars 11 (lookupOptions x3 reference guards, periodos x3, practicas x2, practicaImages scope, studentExamScores lookups, users admin_invariant); pluto 4 (checkDateInPeriodo, preventLastAdminRemoval, guardPrimaryRoleId, preventNestedPersona); terra 11 (all: vocab guards x5, definitionGuard, valueGuard, integrityGuard, forbidOrphaningScopeMembers, requireTerraMembership, participante vocabGuard); venus 3 (cirugias modulo_consistency, compl intraop/postop tipo); enamel 10 (all but recordEmailHistory; ENAMEL-81 draft 085 already converts 3 userGroups guards). Write-shaping / side-effect (MAY keep - a missed fire loses a derivation, breaks no invariant): 10. mars 3 (notification type text sync x2, cascadeSoftDeleteUserRoles); pluto 1 (promoteParticipantRequestOnGrading); venus 6 (practicas/antecedentes/attributeValues confirm_* catalog flags); enamel 1 (recordEmailHistory). PROPOSED RULE (for evolutiva-db.md, migration discipline - pending PM consensus, not pushed): UPDATE OF is an event filter, never an invariant. It keys on the statement SET list, not on whether NEW changed, so a neighbouring BEFORE trigger rewriting a watched column is invisible to it. A trigger that protects a final-row or cross-row invariant has NO column list, tests OLD.x IS DISTINCT FROM NEW.x in its body, and runs AFTER (or is a declarative constraint) - a BEFORE guard without a column list is still blind to a BEFORE trigger that fires after it alphabetically. UPDATE OF stays legal for write-shaping and side-effect triggers. Every conversion ships a forced-red arm in which a neighbouring trigger performs the rewrite. Remediation: per-project rows for the 41, owned by each db lane, latent so p2 unless a draft adds a rewriter (terra_240 is the only one).

Rule APPROVED by pmmaster and pushed: evolutiva-db.md R5, 436a803. Remediation p2: MARS-801 (db-mars-ca, 11), PLUTO-780 (db-pluto-ca, 4), TERRA-289 (db-terra-ca, 11), VENUS-473 (db-venus-cc, 3), ENAMEL-87 (db-enamel-ca, 10) = 39 rows filed against the 41. The 2 not filed are already in flight: terra_240/279 (coder-terra-cc, under audit-terra-ca) and the ENAMEL-81 draft 085 overlap noted on ENAMEL-87. COVERAGE: '0 exposed in applied' is a LIVE-CATALOG claim for mars only; for pluto/terra/venus/enamel it is latent-in-FILES (a file parse cannot see a trigger created outside migrations). Catalog reads asked of the four db lanes; each records its result here per repo.

NOT covered: the file-parse-vs-live gap's exact cause (which 2 file-matched triggers do not exist live, or were dropped/renamed) - not investigated, flagging it as a fact only.

Zero current rewriters does not clear the R5 structural UPDATE OF blind spot or ENAMEL-87 remediation. No DDL/DML.

PLUTO live-catalog census, 2026-10-06, read-only as coder_pluto_cc_ro: 55 non-internal public ROW triggers total; 5 have nonempty pg_trigger.tgattr (UPDATE OF), all enabled (one ALWAYS). practicas.trg_practicas_checkDateInPeriodo watches periodoId,fecha; practicas.trg_practicas_promoteParticipantRequestOnGrading watches reviewStateOptionId (side-effect/write-shaping, not a final-row guard); userRoles.trg_userRoles_preventLastAdminRemoval watches deletedAt; users.trg_users_guardPrimaryRoleId watches primaryRoleId; users.trg_users_preventNestedPersona watches ownerUserId. For every watched column, scanned pg_proc.prosrc of every OTHER BEFORE ROW trigger on the same table for NEW.<column> :=, NEW.<column> = (excluding ==), and INTO NEW.<column>, including quoted identifiers: 0 lexical rewriter matches. This is live trigger/function source coverage, not an execution test and not proof against dynamic or indirect writes. Four invariant guards match PLUTO-780 migration-file list; no extra guard was created out of band.

R6 pushed as e928a89 (evolutiva-db.md): grants postflight asserts the forbidden set via aclexplode, plus the required-set half, snippet sourced from enamel_084. Positive control on Mars live catalog (SELECT only): predicate returns unlisted grantees evolutiva_agent_ro/rw, applog_reader, mars_app_runtime that an anon/authenticated denylist passes. Catalog reads recorded: venus, pluto, enamel; terra pending.

Across all public tables: 22 noninternal row triggers have nonempty tgattr (UPDATE OF), matching the separate Enamel shared-project total. Terra-owned relations account for 11, all ENABLE ALWAYS: terraModuloCampos.definitionGuard(moduloId,key,inputType,lookupCategory); terraPracticas.anestesiaVocabGuard(anestesiaType), pacienteSexoGuard(pacienteSexo), sedeOtroDetalleGuard(sedeId,sedeOtroDetalle); terraPracticasCampos.valueGuard(campoId,value); terraPracticasComplicaciones.vocabGuard(fase,value); terraPracticasParticipantes.requireTerraMembership(userId,deletedAt), vocabGuard(rolEnPractica); terraPracticasPiezasDentarias.requireZona(practicaId,deletedAt); terraPracticasRegionesAnatomicas.requireZona(practicaId,deletedAt), vocabGuard(regionAnatomicaValue). Census complete, all five repos measured against the live catalog (SELECT-only, by each project's db lane): Mars 14, Pluto 5, Venus 8, Enamel 22 and Terra 11 Terra-owned of the 22 in the shared project. Zero sibling BEFORE-row rewriters of a watched column in any repo; evidence is lexical prosrc matching on :=, statement-start = and INTO NEW, not proof against dynamic or helper writes. Latent class, not a live exposure; the one real exposure is the unapplied terra_240 draft. Rules shipped: R5 436a803 (UPDATE OF is an event filter) and R6 e928a89 (forbidden-set grants postflight). Remediation of the 41 invariant guards is on p2 rows MARS-801, PLUTO-780, TERRA-289, VENUS-473 and ENAMEL-87.
