Email drain health check treats ok:false as success - fix the EVO-94 template
Done high
bvbin-venus-cc
evolutiva-emaildrain@.service's liveness/health signal asserts TRANSPORT only, not outcome: a drain response carrying ok:false reads identical on the health surface to a successful drain. A config-broken drain (bad credentials, wrong bearer, app-side rejection) stays green indefinitely because nothing distinguishes 'HTTP 200, drain succeeded' from 'HTTP 200, drain reported failure in-body'. Raised by coder-enamel-cc 2026-09-28, re-raised 2026-10-05. Fix: the unit/monitor must parse the response body's ok field (or equivalent), not just the HTTP status. This is the EVO-94 fleet template's gap, not app-specific - fix once, applies to every app drained by this unit.

Script half SHIPPED: evolutiva-emaildrain.sh v1.0 (5444042, sh.git). Exit status now comes from the response BODY. MEASURED ON VENUS, three defects not one: 1. ok:false read as success - curl --fail-with-body keys on HTTP status only; the endpoints answer a refused drain 200 + {ok:false}. 2. NO ALERT PATH AT ALL - 'systemctl --user show evolutiva-emaildrain@venus.service -p OnFailure' is EMPTY, so even detectable failures (enamel 405 -> exit 22) told nobody. Fixing detection alone would turn a silent false-green into a silent true-red. 3. Bodies were UNATTRIBUTABLE - 880 bodies in 24h of journal, all under _SYSTEMD_UNIT=user@1000.service, so 'journalctl -u evolutiva-emaildrain@enamel.service' showed ZERO over 7 days. Now emitted via logger -t emaildrain-<app>. A MISSING ok field is treated as FAILURE, not pass: a '!= false' test calls an HTML login page healthy. 9 self-check controls, forced red. They caught two bugs in my own first draft: jq's // is the ALTERNATIVE operator and fires on false, so {ok:false} - the one body this exists to catch - was misclassified NOFIELD; and a STRING "true" passed as healthy under -r. Both fixed with .ok|tojson. Verified live: all 4 apps rc=0 on real endpoints; forced red with a bad bearer gives http=401 rc=66. NOT DONE - needs nw-venus-cc (registry row 233 maintainer; I am the BACKUP slot, a successor not a second editor). Two unit edits, this script is INERT until the first lands: ExecStart=%h/.local/bin/evolutiva-emaildrain.sh %i OnFailure=evolutiva-emaildrain-failnotify@%i.service A --user unit's PATH excludes ~/.local/bin, so the absolute path is required.

Both halves landed. Script: evolutiva-emaildrain.sh v1.0 (bin-venus-cc, 5444042) - exit status now from response body. Unit: ExecStart=%h/.local/bin/evolutiva-emaildrain.sh %i + OnFailure=evolutiva-emaildrain-failnotify@%i.service (nw-venus-cc, row 233) - tracked, symlinked, committed. Forced-RED verified: exit 68 override fired OnFailure, failnotify mapped correctly, DM reached nw-venus-cc. Clean re-run all 4 apps (mars/venus/terra/enamel) exit 0.

CORRECTION - the two 401s are MINE, not a credential flap. DO NOT ROTATE VENUS_CRON_SECRET on these grounds. They were my forced-red verification of the new script, run from my shell with a deliberately wrong bearer (VENUS_CRON_SECRET=deliberately-wrong-$$, then =wrong). Three independent proofs: 1. CADENCE. The timer fires *:0/5. The 401s are at 04:13:47.79 and 04:14:12.93 - off-cadence, and journalctl shows NO 'Starting evolutiva-emaildrain@venus.service' at either instant. 2. THE UNIT COULD NOT HAVE EMITTED THEM. ~/.config/systemd/user/evolutiva-emaildrain@.service got the new ExecStart at 04:19:09. Before that the unit ran the old inline curl, which never called logger at all - an 'emaildrain-venus' tagged line before 04:19:09 can only have come from a hand-run of the script. 3. A FINGERPRINT. The 04:13:47 line reads 'http=401 http=401'. That duplication existed only in my pre-fix v1.0 working copy and was edited out before the commit, so that exact byte sequence was never in any deployed file. The 200 ok:true at 04:13:38 'sandwiched' between them is the same thing from the other side: my clean run immediately before the forced-red pair. venus's drain was never observed failing on its own - 04:20:01 and every on-cadence run since are 200 ok:true. MY ERROR in the handoff: I reported the forced-red result without saying it would leave real 401s in the shared journal, which is what made them readable as production events. A deliberate failure injection against a live endpoint has to be announced with its timestamps, or the next reader correctly treats it as an incident.
